Premature birth, how does dental hygiene affect a pregnant woman?

Recent scientific studies have confirmed that oral and dental hygiene affects the health of many body systems, most notably the heart and brain

The bacteria causing tooth decay and gum infections cause heart attacks, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, premature birth, kidney and pancreatic tumors, and eye and joint infections.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health stressed the need to pay attention to oral and dental health, to see a dentist, especially before a woman becomes pregnant, to remove tartar, treat gingivitis, and take good oral care at home to avoid exposure to gingivitis during pregnancy.

The Ministry of Health provided a number of tips for pregnant women regarding dental care, which is that the pregnant woman should avoid taking medications without consulting the dentist, as some medications, such as tetracycline, lead to the appearance of a dark color in the child's teeth when they appear in the mouth.

Avoid smoking and tranquilizers.

Avoid exposure to dental rays except in the case of extreme necessity only, and then a lead separator should be used for the pregnant mother, in order to avoid the appearance of deformities in the fetus, such as cleft lip and roof of the palate (hare lip), as well as deformities in the shape and number of teeth.

Caring for your baby's teeth before birth

Teeth begin to form at an early stage of fetal life. Therefore, dental care for a child must begin from the beginning of pregnancy, by eating a healthy and integrated diet that contains appropriate amounts of calcium, proteins and vitamins.

The bacteria that cause tooth decay is transmitted to children from the mouth of the mother, father, and brothers through kisses, exchanging spoons, or anything that is placed in the mouth, such as feeding bottles.

The mother is the main source of infection because she is the closest to the child, so avoid sharing with your child anything that is placed in the mouth.
